…No, it’s a midweek post! The first, and possibly the last midweek post, but I’m aware I haven’t posted for a while. Unfortunately, it’s not because I’ve been rushed off my feet with all the amazing things to do in Canberra, but rather that I’m rapidly approaching assignment deadlines in all of my courses, and they’re taking priority. After nearly 4 years of having no assigned work (Geology A-level had two pieces in two years, but Maths never has any), I’m still in the swing of leaving it all till the last minute.
Considering how laidback the lecturers are though, their respective assignments are really tough – I’m not sure any of them have made it to a lecture on time. Still, it could be worse: I still have no essays to write.
The weather has turned fully to winter in the last couple of days, almost incessant rain and wind accompanied by the occasional thunderstorm, but sadly not enough to put off the cockatoo’s who gather outside my window every morning, just to remind me that they’re there.
Still though, even with the constant rain, it isn’t that cold – I was in the rain last night, and it wasn’t too chilly (then again, I am Northern!)
For the record, I wasn’t out in the rain just for the sake of it. A group of us had gone to Transit bar for pizza’s, and then to watch the karaoke afterwards, only to find out that they had no pizza bases left (huh?) so we were wandering to find somewhere open, and reasonably priced. We finally settled on Sammy’s Kitchen, a Chinese/Malaysian restaurant that tested each of our abilities with chopsticks. I even surprised myself; by the end of the meal I was managed my Curry Braised Chicken with Mushrooms fairly well, though the rice was a bit more challenging.
And, speaking of what culinary treats I’ve had this week, I’ve ate Australus, or Kangaroo to me and you. There was a competition in 2005 to rename Kangaroo meat, because apparently calling it a Kangaroo, or indeed ‘Skippy’ was putting people off. It hasn’t caught on in Oz though, the section of the market where I got it were more than happy to call it Kangaroo steaks, Kangaroo mince, and Kangaroo sausages. Anyway, back to the eating, it is good food – a dark meat, and a very tender and tasty one. Apparently you can buy kangaroo in England, but I don’t know where. I’d recommend it if you find it though.
And finally, the sporting amongst you may have noticed that the football season is once again upon us, and I simply can’t avoid watching it! Soccer Saturday (Or Soccer Sunday Morning from Midnight till 2), the Charity Shield (with Hernandez’s hilarious debut goal ), and the second half of Middlesbrough v Chesterfield have all kept me up at odd times, but none have been quite as entertaining as this, Australia’s biggest ever win;

The capital city does provide many surprices, it sounds more like a village in northern England.
Enjoy the experience & keep the excellent blog going.
