Combinatorics might just be the greatest Maths module I have ever taken, even if it did take me a week and a half to realise it wasn’t actually Combinatronics – some sort of Transformer type thing. Real, traditional number puzzles that require you to look at things in difficult ways to find inventive solutions.
I’m also now fully qualified to give guided campus tours of the University of Sheffield, imparting such wisdom as to where the Queen ate on her most recent visit last summer (Firth Court), and that the Sheffield has once again been voted as having the #1 Union in the UK, as part of my work being a study abroad ambassador. So, if you were thinking of spending some time abroad, I’m the person to talk to.
I went bowling too this week for the first time. I beat both of my far more experienced housemates in one game, and after much bargaining as to what the forfeit should be (I wanted my rent paid for the next month), we eventually settled on a pint. That’ll do me – the winning was almost enough anyway. The social was good fun too, and it makes me feel like a relatively cool person. Legging it with my friends hoodie afterwards was possibly not such a smart idea.
A more than good week in all though. I discovered last year I’m an optimist, and these last few days I’ve really had something to enjoy. Old friends making an effort to cheer me up, and new friends leaving me with a smile on my face. Hurray!
I’m off for a nice weekend at home now for my Dad’s birthday. I promise a site redesign will come soon!
Vive la Britain!

Combinatorial problems arise in many areas of pure mathematics so that should fit you like a glove.
My birthday was made all the better for the visit from you & it was not too scabby to get a nice movie to watch with you.
The title for the picture should really have an English title, maybe ”This Is England”.
Glad to hear you are an Ambassador, that sounds really important, not quite an Engineering Vice President but a step in the right direction.

It’s good to hear you’re full of busy and enjoying life back in Sheffield. Your passion for maths is back with a vengeance. Hurrah.
It was nice to have you home for the weekend. We just didn’t have enough time. We didn’t get round to looking at the math. Maybe if we had I’d know what this combinatorics is all about! Next time!
Enjoy being an Ambassador. You can show us the SU when we next visit.
